This (me) just in...
Boy, go away for a while and just look at the changes. Took a few minutes to get used to but I kinda like it
Just got back from Atlanta and I didn't intend to be away from the board at all but the motel had questionable internet service at frist and that just quit soon thereafter. Was there for two weeks and a couple of days for training and never touched trousers the whole time. It was great! No containment work, no HP gas or fluid, no ladders, scaffolds or towers to climb...no pants!! I loved it!
Kilted, alone, in a strange city, especially one as large as Atlanta, was a little intimidating at first but what the hey? Last one in is a rotten egg. I got outstanding reviews from the locals, many compliments and of course the usual questions. Only one slightly tense moment when in a Wally World a couple of young "gentlemen" took exception to the tee shirt I was wearing, one of the Real Men Wear Kilts tees. Thought they might like to show me that they were real men but they changed their minds once I explained the situation to them in a more realistic light. End of situation.
During my off time I pretty well covered the city and the only other kilts I saw were at the Ren Fest over the weekend. Even there the kilt and I got more than usual attention since I was a spectator and not a participant. Several people asked me to pose for pics with them and many more just wanted to talk about kilts. Word to Rocky and Jeff, I passed out several of your cards while I was there and Matt, don't be surprised if you get a couple of boxpleat orders from GA.
Went to a place, very posh and at least semi-formal required, for dinner last friday night and was pleasantly surprised by the manager. The Head Waiter wanted to turn us away because I wasn't wearing a tie when the manager happened by and explained to him that a jacobite shirt worn with a kilt, hose and flash can pass as formal wear. LOL, not only did we get in, the manager made sure we had a prime table and even comp'ed the desserts for the party. Who'da thunk it?
Note to anyone really looking for a job. The parent company of the school I attended is hiring all the time. If you are willing to sit thru a couple of weeks of training and aren't afraid of getting dirty, or coming south, let me know and I'll give you the name.
Had to spend today in trousers and tonight I'm actually in pain from it so the new war cry is... I HATE PANTS!!!
Take care all.
Mike
