Slainte!
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm both new to the board and new to kilts. I've lurked here on this site for a couple of weeks, and appreciate all of the advice that I've received in my searches of your posts.
By way of explanation, I'm mostly German in my heritage, my last name is Fleischer. But my username was selected in honor of the one Scot in my family tree back in 1840, my great-great-great-great-great-grandmother.
As a result of my Scottish "heritage" I've been invited to a Burns Dinner this month, which led to my search for a kilt so as to be properly attired. Well, $25/yard for the MacMillan tartan is a little hard to swallow on short notice, so I found some Black Watch tartan at a local fabric store and my wife is currently hard at work sewing my first kilt. I have to brag on her a bit, as she's made eight suits for me from scratch, so she didn't want me to go out and buy a kilt if she could make it.
Besides, at 6'10" tall, I'm a little hard to fit off the rack, hence the custom fit suits.
My avatar is, obviously, the MacMillan crest. The avatar itself is from the label that I made for my homebrewed Scottish Ale, which, btw, I'm enjoying as I type this. Otherwise, biographically, my call is as a Lutheran Pastor and I'm in the Kayak business on the side.
I can't wait for my first kilt to be finished, can't wait to go to the Burns Dinner (although the idea of Haggis makes me a little queasy), and I'm especially looking forward to having my wife make me some more kilts in my traditional clan tartans, and, maybe picking up a Stillwater Shadow kilt and another kilt in a clergy tartan.
Anyway, like I said, I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm looking forward to getting to know you all here. I'll post pics from our Burn's Dinner, which is coming up on November 18th.
