Black Gospel Music originated in Scotland?

As u said, this is not a religious thread Todd, but even not being a proffesional of history, I am a passionated of it!. At the times before the reform, Rome compulsed every church all over the christian world to transmit the Gospel in latin (in fact, the only place where pure latin language was spoken was Vatican City), but the reason for it was quite more practical than any "Da Vinci Code" elucubration. It was the only way that could be applied in the middle ages to be sure that the Gospel and the message could remain unaltered. U could read or listen the same words in the same language on every parish, cathedral or eremitory from Al-Andalus (The muslim Spain in middle age) to Skye, from Santiago de Compostela to Warzaw. After the reform, just the roman catholic remained using latin until concilium Vatican II in the 1960's, and after it we also started to translate and use our national languages for the cult services. Since then, I've seen many different spanish and south american translations of the Bible, and all are accepted by Rome, but I remember that some words were adapted to the origins of the translator. Both hispan-americans and spaniards speak in spanish, but we use lots of words to express different things, as well as happens with british english and american english. After a century or two, if roman church survives, the differences will be really stronger, don't you think?

Regarding the book, as I told you, it was a novel, so it could maybe alterate reality, but well. This black guy was the best friend of the main character of the book, that is a white boy called Pete Breakfast. Pete rejects to join the highlanders and gets as a drummer into another infantry U.S. regiment, as he don't want to wear a "skirt", while Joshua joins them and plays the pipe to battle in Bull Run... I'll stop here, hehehe.
Maybe it's not historic, but it showed a black boy claiming for some scottish heritage (even with a spanish surname) and anyway...it was a good book for me at 13 years old!!
