Underwear was invented to protect your clothing from you. The human body doesn't suddenly dry up when you strap on a kilt.
If one chooses to go the regimantal route, there are measures that can be taken to minimize the risk. Long shirts - which have already been mentioned - is an obvious option. Also various brands of disposable moist infant wipe cloths are available at most phramacies (chemists)... they are inexpensive and effective.
Every man is different and the decision to wear or not to wear the kilt in the traditional manner will be based on individual circumstances and preference.
I say... Just enjoy that kilt in the manner that best suits you!
