    Thanks for the encouragement, Hamish!

Yes, it does seem to work like that. I've been out lots of times now, and even my wife is now used to the idea!

I have to report that each time I've been out, I've had nothing but positive comments - and this in East and South London. Nice reactions from shoppers in Sainsburys - including one elderly lady who said to her companion 'Doesn't that man look smart in his kilt...' so I just turned round, shot a big smile at her and said 'Thank you!' and a good conversation followed.

The thing I can't get over is that when wearing the kilt, I get to talk to people I wouldn't otherwise speak to, and they're all friendly. I think the reaction I've enjoyed most so far was from a (trouser-clad) scottish man a DIY Superstore in in Greenwich - I'd gone out casual kilted again (button down shirt, kilt, dark hose and flashes and black day sporran) to buy some lightbulbs, and as I was going out after paying, he called over to me in a broad scottish accent - 'Good oan ya, big man!' and smiled and waved. It fair made my day!

So I'd say to any xmarkers out there who haven't gone out casual yet - have courage and go for it! As others have noted above, the first time is the scariest, and most people are positive and friendly.

The only problem from all this going out casual is I think I now need some more kilts to wear... Hamish, have you any advice, or is the addiction now incurable?

Here's to the power of the kilt!

    Best regards
