Update 4/15/07
Rough sanded the handle this morning and decided to make a wooden sheath from the offcut from the block I bought. Cut into three thin slices on the band saw then cut out the blade shape in the center slice. This is how it looked before I glued it up.

Then I cut a slot in a scrap piece of jade and glued it on the top.

Tomorrow will sand to the handle shape and start the final polishing.
While I like the angled handle finish I have decided that the damascus blade will have a military style handle - oval cross section and plain sides. I'm trying to find a Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (my old army days) collar badge. Should be able to mill out a recess and fit it into the handle.
