Look What I've Got
I got back from school in Kingston on Thursday, and this was waiting for me.

Oh, yes.
It's a tank in the Ogilvie Hunting tartan made for me by my great aunt in Sydney, NS. Very, very happy with it. As soon as I was unpacked, I strapped it on and went to pick up some pizzas. I was a bit nervous at first to head into public (which, really, I didn't expect to be), but out I went, anyway.
Interesting that everyone wants to look, but no one wants to stare, isn't it? One fellow even held his wallet out, looking over it while pretending to rifle through his credit cards. I didn't see it, but my sister did.
Wore it again yesterday for the entire day. I went to meet my friends (first time since I've been back) at the Tim Hortons. On the walk there, I was honked at four times, and passed by two eight-year-old boys, one of whom said to the other, "Look! Someone's wearing a kilt!"
Got to Timmy's and put up with some ribbing from my friends. One asked me outright - was I wearing underwear? Told him that I just wasn't going to tell him. He later said that while he makes fun he "has nothing but respect" for me, which was nice. Another friend asked why I was wearing a kilt at all. Just told him because I wanted to.
I left Tim's to go to a friend's house - honked at three more times, and yelled at once (either "Yeah!" or something that assumes a great deal about my sexual orientation from my manner of dress - no matter). The three of us had a good time laughing at all the people trying to steal a glance at me. We eventually arrived and my friend's mother made me stand up and turn about. Asked the usual - what tartan, am I a piper...
After a bit I left his house for another friend's to play poker. I was supposed to meet him halfway, but we somehow missed each other. He told me later that he was stopping people and asking if they had seen a man in a kilt. Turns out none had, and he got some funny looks. I thought that was hilarious.
While walking, I was yelled at from a car once more, though. "Whoa! Whoa! What the **** is that?!?" in a very mocking way. You know what? I found it didn't bother me at all - I didn't even turn my head to look. About five minutes later, though, I had an encounter that I did pay attention to. A middle-aged woman and her (rather attractive) daughter passed me on the sidewalk. The mother looked right at me and said "The kilt is beautiful." The daughter made a sound like her tongue tripped over itself. Found that rather funny as well. Thanked them and was on my way.
I eventually found my friend and went to his house, then headed home after a rousing game of poker, and another of euchre.
So, all-in-all, a busy couple of days, but good ones. Yes, I know I need a sporran strap instead of a chain, yes, I know the kilt is a bit low (I pulled it up after the photo was taken), and, yes, I know I'm wearing off-white hose - I like them, so there!
Edit: In my eagerness to post, it seems that I've neglected to mention that this is my first kilt. Consider it mentioned!
