As a Scot now living South of the Border too, I'd be delighted to see you in the kilt. A lot of my dancing friends are English, some with slight Scottish connections, some with none. They all happily wear the kilt and I definitely approve because they wear it, as Hamish says you should, "with respect."
Mind you I have hear them refer to themselves disparagingly and defensively as "Sassenachs in skirts" because they, like you, seem to expect that we Scots will put them down. I do my best to reassure them that this is decidedly not how I see them. And I know they are not really serious because more than one has also said "once you've tried dancing in a kilt you want to wear one every time." But that is just what so many others have discovered. You only have to try it once to know you want to wear it again, and again and again ...
