Hiya folks

Congratulations, PipeandDrumsNun! Finding out anything about one's ancestry is not easy, but generally rewarding.

We had a bit of luck tracing my mother's side of the family. Firstly, some enterprising person hired a professional geneologist. Secondly, my great (insert a couple more great's in here) grandfather was given a grant of land by the then Governor of Australia and came over in the First Fleet of free settlers. This gave us a nice clear record of the family back till the late 1700's. With this head-start, it was possible to trace my family back quite a ways...back to 1066 and the Battle of Hastings, apparently.

My great-great-great-great-uncle founded the London Times, and (so I'm told) William Wallace was listed as one of my distant ancestors.

One of these days I'm going to have to get a hold of that particular document and give it a thorough read-through.

cheers
