Raphael found a military box pleated MacDonald kilt that was in fair shape at a thrift store. It was 28" at the top but the top was up at the armpits! He gave it to me, so I chopped 6"-8' off the top and voila! It happens to fit me perfectly! I had to re-attach the buckles, cut a hole for the left side buckle, stitch down the pleats a few more inches, and replace the lining, but it's a nice traditional kilt that I can wear with my Argyle jacket to formal events. (Still haven't been to a formal event since I started kilting.)
And my high school sweetheart, my first love, was a MacDonald. Serendipity!
