Hi and welcome from Utah.

A kilt can be worn pretty much anytime, how much do you want to spend? A nice wool kilt can be over 400, less expensive ones start at about 40.
Nice wool kilts hold up great, but they are a bit spendy, and quite warm in warm climates.
I have a nice worsted wool for "careful" wear, and have a casual on order from USAK that will be for hiking, rafting, beer drinking, etc.
