We get some really hot and humid days here in Missouri as well. I don't know what you think about non-traditional kilts, but for those kind of days I wear Amerikilts. Although my normal kilt length is 24", I ordered my Amerikits at 22". I wear them so that the bottom of the kilt hits about an inch above the knee. I don't think they look too short, and when you get that occasional breeze it makes a world of difference in helping to keep you reasonably comfortable.
Wide range of temperatures here. Winter can have days below 0 F, and summer can have days with heat indexes of 105 - 110 F. That's why my kilt collection ranges from 16 oz wool to light weight Amerikilts.
