Kilted Friday - encounter with the monks

when i was going to culinary school i remember one of my books mentioned that buddist monks actually used saffron and tumeric to dye their robes.

That makes sense; I'll have to ask "my" monk/teacher when I next see him. (American-born of Scottish descent, so I'm sure he'd get a kick out of this thread!)

Incidentally, using STA's "Tartan Ferret" it looks like there are indeed 2 tartans associated with the Samye Buddhist monastery:
