Pulling the trigger
Just wanted to sound off to sympathetic ears. I'm excited. Tomorrow's payday and I'm pulling the trigger.
I've mentioned in another thread that I'm getting married again in May and I decided to do it the way I want this time. Kilted. Since making the decision, I've been reading more and more and getting more interested in wearing a kilt more often than I would have thought.
I've already acquired a PC jacket and waistcoat (from the "Geoffrey Made for Scottish" ebay store if anyone cares... not to devolve into a commercial, but I'm pretty darn happy with the fit and quality, especially given the price... the rabbit fur sporran they include is 'ok' but I'm sure not up to par with a dress sporran I could have paid real money for. It looks good enough to the untrained eye to be wearable for formal occasions where it won't take much abuse).
Tomorrow (Friday) is payday. I'm setting aside $$ every payday to go toward wedding expenses and I'll be placing my order with Stillwater tomorrow morning (the good lord willing and they don't run out of stock in my size!).
I'm ordering 2 kilts up front, along with a kilt belt, leather sporran, 2 pairs of hose and a couple of kilt pins. Both kilts with be standards. One in the USMC Leatherneck tartan (I am a Marine, so I thought it most appropriate for my wedding) and an Irish Saffron... because a) I can trace roots to Ireland, b) I really like the color and c) I promised the bride to be that I would save the Leatherneck for the wedding, and I'd really like to go kilted before then, plus I think the solid color will be good for more "casual" wear.
Just wanted to share the joy. Can't believe I'm nearly 45 and getting my first kilt. Glad the female seems receptive to the idea of me wearing it for more than formal occasions... let's hope that holds up!
