So, raise your hand if this thread has swayed your opinion on the matter.
As far as I can tell, no one has supplied a compelling argument for one side or the other than having simply said, "That's the way it is." That's not a debate, that's a series of position statements, and when people take positions, there is little chance of reconciliation.
Two men were fighting over an orange. Each said he needed the orange. "I want the orange!" said one. "No! I want the orange!" said the other. Back and forth it went, and no one could lay legitimate claim to the orange. When one thought to ask the other, "Why do you think you need that orange?" the other replied, "Well, I want to make juice. Why do you need it?" "To make marmalade," said the other. So, it turned out that one could have the peel while the other got the juice. Neither man got the orange, but both went away satisfied that they got what they needed.
Isn't XMTS a little like that? It appears that here among us, no one can lay claim to the definition of a kilt. But we each have a place to go enjoy our marmalade or our juice as we see fit.
We are not going to stop talking about contemporary kilts any more than we will stop marveling over a well made tank. Whether or not you think of it as a skirt or an outdated costume, it changes nothing about this forum. The point is that we respect the other side, get out of it what we need, and enjoy the things that we share in common.

Rex.
