I agree; I think that's the link. Of course it is also true that Celtic cultures generally value fighting ability for its survival value.

Cultural influences can be forceful to the point of brutality, but they are far more often very subtle---so subtle that we don't recognize them as external influences, don't realize that there is a range of possible behaviors we have not cosidered because they are foreign to the culture in which we were raised, because they are things that "People like us just don't do.".
