One cuff done (1.5 cable repeat) and the second is cast on and in the works. This is two cable widths, separated by a 2-stitch row of plain knitting -- same thing on other side.

One thing I hadn't anticipated is the little "lettuce edge" or ruffle around the bottom of the cuff. I suppose one could cast on fewer stitches then increase until you had enough to work the cable, but I'm not going there.

I've also figured out a fallback point -- when I get the garter ribbing done, I'll thread a line of contrasting-color yarn through that row. Then, if I just can't get the leg to work up the way I want it, I'll back off, bind off at the bottom of the garter, and call them cuffs!

The scary thing is that I'm beginning to learn the pattern. . . not sure I'll have all 16 rows memorized by the time I'm done, but it could happen!
