Olivers Family/Clan associations
I am researching for my first kilt and am trying to find out what clans/families we were associated with. I've traced my mother's family, the Olivers to the Jedburgh region of the borders in 1627.
The Frasers claim our family as a sept, however all the information I can find from Oliver sources emphatically claim no relation to the Fraser Clan. I have found several explanations including:
We never had any family associations and the mix up came from the naming of Oliver Castle by Oliver Fraser.
And at one point the Frasers lived on or near Oliver land and when they went north 2 out of 3 branches of the Olivers (ours being the one that stayed) went with them living on Fraser land.
Also I think the Douglas were given Jedburgh in the 1300's
Since clan/family ties were most often based on geography I was wondering which Family/Clan were assciated with this region.
