I had been thinking about making my own waistplate for a while. Well, today I finished my first one. It isn't anything fancy, just casual belt-bling. It is pretty rough as I really just did it all on the fly with out too much of a plan. Now with this one "under my belt" so to speak, I am going to plan a nicer looking one. It is three layers of 1mm brass sheet held together with hammered copper rivets. The leather plate on the front is a Pictish crescent and V-rod motif. It is laced onto the top brass plate with tin wire. On the back plate I silver-soldered bent brass rods for the belt holder and catch. I definitely need to practice soldering more before moving on to better looking stuff. I just now finished assemblying it so it is not totally done. I do not know if I want to polish it or antique it.
