I have just acquired a nice kilt, apparently new, nicely made, but with no clear idea of the fabric content. The fabric is fluffy, like wool, but might have some acrylic in it. It is "lofty", not hard finished. I snipped a small piece and tried burning it. It burned, a little reluctantly and made a tiny bit of the kind of globs I would associate with acrylic, but it didn't burn spectacularly or anything. The kilt has a selvedge hem, but no turn-up at the apron. The lining would seem to be poly-cotton or some other blend. There is a little bit of jute webbing at the aprons, but no other canvas detectable. The pleats are cut out under the lining and everything seems to be machine stitched. It has 20 generous pleats ( to sett) and seems to weigh a little over 2 pounds. The two buckles and leather straps are acceptable, but nothing special. One buckle is riveted (not sewn) on to the strap. There are no labels at all.

I am guessing it is acrylic-wool blend, but would greatly appreciate any insights or suggestions for testing.

The price was a closeout deal and may or may not reflect the quality. I'd rather not set the moths on it, but I'd love to know if it is wool.
