Lassie Norquay, people claim tartan based on bloodline, territorial reality, or just a desire to wear it. If you and your spouse enjoy it, ENJOY it. Really. My sister and I grew up in the same house and have very different impressions of what our childhood was like. Someone in the Orkneys could
feel very Scottish, yet have siblings who feel VERY Norse, and websites are
typically written by those who are quite passionate about a subject. At
some point, for some people, the facts become irrelevant. There's no need to let them run your life or ruin your fun.
What cajunscot and I were attempting to say to you is that with the Sinclair
bloodlines crossing borders from Norway and Denmark to France to Scotland,
there is a very real possibility of a strong claim, if you want to justify.
For Mike Oettle: The Sinclair earls of Orkney were the Barons of Roslin. The
first Sinclair Baron of Roslin was dead in 1070. The first Sinclair Earl of Orkney was the 9th Baron of Roslin. The 1307 suppression of Templars
happened during his grandfather's life (7th baron). Hard to keep track of all
this this stuff at times, and I was told the same story, but I discovered, to no small amount of dismay, that I have descent from several lines of Norman
knights and baronial houses and read up a bit.
