Woodsheal raises an interesting point. I usually refer to wearing "the kilt" myself. I suppose I do so largely because I am referring to more than just "a kilt". When I "saddle up" my horse for the day, I mean more than just a saddle . . . there is a bridle too, and a number of other items as well. When I say "the kilt" I am also meaning the hose, the sgian dubh, the belt, (if the kilt is to be worn without a jacket or waist coat) the kilt pin, and the sporran.

It is not meant to be mystical, merely inclusive of the accessories I usually wear whenever I put on a kilt.
