Right then. I did a little searching around and found that what was reported to us here last night was incorrect. SFU has only been in the top three consistently for the last 12 years and while their record is impressive over the last quarter century they are beaten out in this period by the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band who have had a full seven first place rankings while SFU has had only six. FMM also has consistently ranked higher than SFU throughout. Another excellent showing in the last two and a half decades is the Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band with five number one rankings and finishes almost as impressive as FMM and SFU. This is the current situation in the Worlds which ended the previous dynasty of the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band who placed first twelve times from 1976 - 1991.
So there you have it for those interested. Over the last quarter century, Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band is the best pipe band in the world, Simon Fraser University Pipe Band is second best and Shotts & Dykehead are third, but none of these bands has matched the impressive record of the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band in their day.
