As he was with his girlfriend, I made no attempt to enlighten him -- would've been rude.

When I was at the Saline Celtic festival a couple months ago, there was aa teenager wearing (I presume) an off the peg kilt similar to that. He was complaining how uncomfortable it was. I pointed out the fell line, and where that should be. For some unknown reason, on most (adult) guys, (unless they are exceptionally short or tall) if you put a kilt on them AND get them to put the fell line in the right place, the selvedge or hemline falls near the knee.

Indeed...I made my own. I know for a fact that Jamie (Panache) does own tie garters as well as the flashes that he was wearing this weekend.
Longhuntr74, How about some instructions for the garters. I'd love to have another project to add to the gazillion already on my list.

Wow!
You handled it much better than I would have Jeff. Like John, I don't tolerate fools well.
Fortunately we didn't run across your "expert" on Sunday.
As you can see, although the hem on Connie's "kilt" was at the same location as mine, she apparently forgot to take into consideration her somewhat different height!

If someone is going to start a Pleasanton games thread, I have some photos from the opening and closing events to post.
Cheers,
Brooke

What is the name of that type of kilt. I know I've read it before but I can't remember. I'm talking about a lady's kilt that has the waistband made on the bias.

I once heard it said that the strong desire to direct and control others is usually in inverse proportion to how in control someone feels about their own life. Mr. Kikltpoliceman, perhaps, is teetering on the edge..... Annoying, but sad, at the same time. Nice job on handling an unpleasant situation!

This weekend I attended the Virginia Scottish Games and while sitting at my clan tent began to notice that a lot of men wore their kilts below the knee. As I sat there I began to count: those who wore it just covering the knee or above, and those who wore it below the knee (I didn't count bandsmen, those in sport-kilts, or young boys). After about 10 minutes it was about 1:4. Almost all were wearing their kilt on their hips, like a pair of pants.
I noticed at the VA Scottish Games that most of the gathering of the Rabble (thanks for the Scotch, Ern!) wore our kilts at about the top of the knee. Haven't seen the pics yet.

Well, I did not encounter the Kiltpolizei while at the Celtic Highland Games in Winston, OR last month. Maybe it had something to do with the warm weather, and that so many were wearing their kilts in less than traditional Highland daywear manner. With the exception of band members, most people were wearing their kilts with a loose fitting shirt, and a hat that offered some shading to the eyes.

Isnt that the how the headmaster used to measure how long a girls skirt should be?
