    Re: Backs of Belt Buckles

i was not thinking of taking the actual patch and putting it on a buckle, even though im sure it would stay with the right appoxy but over time im sure the patch would begin to wear. but there is an eagle scout coin that is just about the right size for a buckle.

so i was thinking of taking this...

    and a buckle like this....

    and making something like this!

the coin measures 1 5/8 x 2, and this particular buckle measures 4 x 3. the coin is made of nickle and the belt of chrome, and since im not a jeweler or anything i would have no idea on how to attach them but made try JB weld or take it to a jeweler. but over all that is what i would like to find/buy/make

    Re: Backs of Belt Buckles

I had Steve at Oconee Leather make a kilt belt that I could wear with with a buckle that had a prong that was meant to be put through a hole in the belt as a closer. Steve did not punch holes in the belt, but rather, made a series of cross shaped slits that he hid in the embossed/tooled pattern. The slits are so subtle that I didn't see them at first. The slits work fine with the buckle, and are not visible.

The color is probably paint, so soldering is not possible unless you remove the paint, apply soft solder (500F or less), then re-paint. Soft soldering is not the best solder, but for this project you have no choice in solders.

In all liklihood, JB Weld would work. However, you might consider getting some LocTite 406, or 454.

Use a Dremel tool, or very rough sand paper, and put some 'tooth' into the back of the coin, and into some of the area on the buckle that the coin will cover. Use the LocTite as directed.

Email me if I can be of any help.
