actually it might be nice to have a skirt in this tartan considering it's more "legit" then if I just chose one that I like and went with that. lol.

Ok well my Scottish district first and then Wisconsin. Shoot, you guys, I already have two planned out.

The thread I linked earlier has some patterns (McCalls etc) that are a good starting point. I just went to Joann's and looked through pattern books for 4-gore long skirts, found several likely contenders and bought them all (on sale). The older skirts that we both so admire seem to have small pinch-pleats at the waist so I added a few inches to each gore for that. Instead of using the straight grain arrows on gore pattern pieces, I lined the side seams up on the straight grain (matching tartan lines from piece to piece) which put the center front and back on the bias. Not 90-degree bias but enough to create that pleasing diamond effect at the center front/back seams.
Couple of long seams, 7-inch zipper on one side, stay-stiched the pinch-pleats and then applied the interfaced waistband. I machine-stitched the hem on my madras test unit but most likely would use hem tape and hand-stitch the real thing.

If only doing it were as quick as writing it up. . .I really wanted to get one done for Ventura Games but that is looking less and less likely! Oh well, I didn't say which year LOL
