A suggestion for you unfortunate fellows whose wives/girlfriends object to you donning your kilts: the next time she appears in any sort of trousers - be it jeans or whatever - say, "Um, I object to what you're wearing right now. I would find a skirt more acceptable."

I'm actually fortunate to have a wife who demands that I be kilted whenever possible. It was she who persuaded me into wearing the kilt in the first place.

This thread has really taken on a life of its own. Please forgive any offense, but the thought of "some" ladies not liking--to vehemently hating the kilt and so on through accesories and headwear...

...seems to be perhaps based on a combination of (their) "lack of ability to control" and perhaps a hair of narrowmindedness when it comes to men wishing to make their OWN fashion statement or decide their own level of comfort...?

My wife doesn't like my kilt wearing either. It's not the kilt she doesn't like, if she met you in the street wearing yours, It wouldn't bother her at all. It's me in a kilt that bothers her. We've been married for 27 years, and for right or wrong, everything one of us does reflects on the other one. She wouldn't wear anything so "unusual" so it embarasses her when I do. There. I defended her point of view, because I love her. Now let's talk about how much it sucks...............

I can see where you are coming from...and to be honest, I cant imagine telling another person that they cannot wear a garment from their heritage. I might say "Im not a fan of this" but with or without a wedding ring, both people are still individuals. Isnt that why you vow to spend eternity with someone? Becuase you love who they are? If a man is so proud to be Scot/Irish that he owns even ONE kilt, that should have come up in the dating process and became one of the things that makes that man who he is. It is something that makes him happy and unique and proud to be who he is and nobody should tell him that he can't display it in his traditional clothing.

I guess I just feel like it would be taking away part of someones identity to tell them that the cant display part of their heritage. This has been a constant pet peeve of mine being that I run into this quite often in my religious circle and there comes a time when you need to put your foot down and say that your heritage is something you want to display and your spouse should NOT smother that pride. It's so important that they don't.

note** I am certainly not accusing any of our boardies wives of smothering out their husbands heritage and pride. lol. I was simply ranting. This is a topic that I can get pretty heated about. I hope nobody thinks I was accusing their wives I certainly am not.

If I weren't already married to a woman with that same attitude, I'd ask you to marry me!
