Seriously - Over the past 30 years I have sampled quite a few scotches, both blended and single malt, and have favorites in both categories. On the whole, I do favor the single malts a little more. I am quite sure that a true scotch snob would find my preferences quite plebeian.
I choose my scotch the same way I choose my wines (I don't need no stinkin rules) I drink what I like.
Precisely. Drink what you like. I think the single malts are a little smoother on the palate, but I'll drink virtually anything anyone buys for me. Don't disregard Irish malts - Bushmills do a nice selection. My favourite.

Bushmills is my favourite whiskey, as well.
