Dresden, Saxony greets the Quaich

A meeting on Saturday was cancelled at the last minute, so I decided to take some pictures.

Frauenkirche 1970's, kept as a silent monument by the GDR against war.


Not bombed but damaged by embers from a nearby building which flew into the Church.

Frauenkirche 2011- Built with Funds fron the Dresden Trust subscribed to by Britain and USA, amongst others.
The Golden Cross is a copy of the original which was found in the rubble in 1995.
It was produced by Alan Smith, son of a RAF bomber pilot who took part in the raids on Dresden



Interesting to note that a city ordinance stipulated that the area around the Frauenkirche be built
as it was before the war.

MS Meissen, one of 13 paddle steamers still sailing on the Elbe today.



The Yenidse



It is not a Mosque but was a Cigarette Factory designed on a whim from the owner. It is now a Theatre
and Restuarant. The Dome is lit up at night from inside.
