Mighty Men kilt

These pictures were taken back in March, but for one reason or another I have not got around to posting them. I took them the day my first kilt arrived.
It is a four-yard kilt in the Mighty Men tartan from Tartans4Africa, woven in Cape Town in 13oz polyviscose.
It was made in Ekurhuleni (previously called the East Rand) in Gauteng Province by Egbert Harmse, who operates under the name Cargokilts.

Good looking kilt Mike, is the pleating classed as pleated to the stripe or no stripe? Whatever it is, it looks grand, Cheers to you Sir.

I was wondering as I looked at this kilt , What are the threads I see inside the pleats top to bottom? is it basting that you take out or does it stay?

Yes, Thomas, those were the basting stitches. I took them out before I put the kilt on.
As for your question, Mike, my recollection is that Egbert said he pleated to the sett, since he didn’t have enough material to work with to do fancier pleating.

Mike , it's NOT pleated to the sett, if it were, it would look just like the front apron. It seems to be pleated to a block, with the white strip just hidden behind the fold.

I like that every step from tartan design, through weaving, to sewing it up was a South African production. Nice work Mike_Oettle!

That's a lovely kilt, Mike. The colours are wonderful and what the kilt stands for even more so!

I'd also like to echo CMcG's comment that it is great that the entire production was South African.

I'm looking forward to seeing something similar in the "Spirit of 1994" tartan! ;)
