    Kilted in Kentucky

I wore the kilt to the Knob Creek MG shoot in Kentucky 14-16 Oct. 99% of the comments I recevied were positive. Had a great time. One fellow was a bit rude, surprising since he wore a hat and t-shirt denoting that he was a member of the Marine corps. As he walked by he sarcasticly said "NICE DRESS!" I calmly informed him it was in fact not a dress but a kilt. He did not respond, I think maybe because of the looks my friends were giving him! I have the greatest respect for the Corps, this guy was either ignorant of the Marine Corps tartan or posing as a Marine. Or maybe he was just a jerk. At any rate I didnt let it spoil a great time.BTW,this was the first time I've had a negative experiance while kilted. Thanks for letting me vent.

A good come back might have been to say "Semper Fi!" back to him. No true Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine) would disrespect that -- or you!!!

As someone who grew up vacationing every summer at our family's beach house very near Camp Lejeune, I can't say I'm surprised by that at all (sorry, fellas, but it's true).

I'm glad your kilted experience in the Commonwealth was otherwise a good one.

Perhaps all three. Unfortunately, shoots like that tend to bring out the posers. I wonder if he was a resident of the Commonwealth or a visitor as well.

As a native Kentuckian, I'm glad you had an otherwise pleasant visit to the Commonwealth and hope you will one day return.

    Re: Kilted in Kentucky

Most likely a visitor. The Kentuckians(sic) I met where very pleasant.I suppose it effected me somewhat more in that he was probably a Marine. I was Army Infantry and trained with some outstanding Marines from time to time and I refuse to think bad of them just because of one bad apple.

Perhaps the next time your in Kentucky you could let some of us kilted Kentuckians know and there will be more kilts there for the "maybe" Marine to frown on. Glad you had 99% good reactions though and hope you had a great time in our state.

    Re: Kilted in Kentucky

i dont think the marine tartan is officially sanctioned or recognized by the marines.so unless he is a kiltie there is no reason to recognse it.
