Further to your question whether I was ordering a new kilt.
Whilst at the mill (TFCK) I looked at a variety of kilts in a variety of materials, as you can imagine, and one I was quite taken with was the chinese silk. I thought it would be far too feminine for a kilt, but in fact looked really good and retained all the kilts masculinity.
Now I can't afford such a Rolls Royce of kilts but, knowing you to be a man of substance, I wondered if you had one .
If so would you let me know any information about how it wears do the pleats stay in or anything you've noticed.
You may already have guessed I'm trying to justify getting myself one
Thanks for your time
Cheers Rhino
Rhino,
Me? A "man of substance"? You have to be joking! I don't eat in order that I can pay for my kilts!!!!!
It's strange but I had a similar question earlier this week about Howie's Chinese silk kilts, but I cannot remember now who posed it, or where it was.
To give you an answer: No, I don't have one myself, nor would I, although I have tried on Howie's display models, which feel superb.. There are a couple of reasons why I give that response: First, Howie, himself, admits that the silk creases very badly and very quickly, in spite of its thickness as it is actually a silk brocade. This is regardless of which fabric you might have seen. His first one was in a peacock blue with huge, circular multi-coloured patterns across it, and now he has a kilt suit in black, figured silk. Being black, the creasing is not quite as evident but it is still there! The fabric does hold it's pleats reasonably well, but it does also need care and attention.
Second, I would have no-where I could wear such a kilt! Howie attends celebrity fashion shows and receptions, which are ideal locations for elaborate garments such as this. It would be wasted on me.
Third, the cost. Because of its impracticality, I would prefer to have two other kilts, which I could wear, for the same outlay.
For anyone who attends the Oscars ceremony and similarly prestigeous events, it might be an investment, but otherwise, I hae me doots!
Please do not let me put you off having one of these kilts made for you, Rhino. You asked my opinion, and I believe I have given it.
