Re: Just wondering
I've busted through the numbers several times. I did this about 5 years ago after 8 months of unemployment in IT, when I was starting to despair of ever finding another IT job, and had been making a LOT of kilts.
Upshot?
Can't do it. There was no way I could see to do it as a real industry, and make an actual living out of it, here in California. I'm known for wide-eyed optimism, and maybe even sometimes making things look better than they are if I really want something. Even with all that, there was no way in on this earth I could make a go as a kiltmaker. I'd do better, moneywise, working as a substitute teacher, or doing a retail job in the outdoor industry...REI, North Face or whatever.
I might consider doing it as a cottage industry when I retire. But that's it. go look up my threads in the general forum about "why they cost what they do". Then do the math.
Then send in an application to Target.
