Jockscot is right on! Forget the medals too, not military affair. You say might be deal breaker if they answer nay. How bad do you want to go, kilt or no kilt? Several years ago the local tux store was having a big sale on old used things. I bought two coats (one for $2, the other for $50 plus pants & couple shirts), all for the sake of versatility. My son went ebay and got his entire tux outfit for wedding for less then it would cost him to rent one.

I hate it when others think the dress kilt package isn't black tie! But then look at all the high school proms where kilts have been banned, including Wm. Mackintosh High School outside Atlanta some 15 yrs ago. School foyer even has life-size painting of Wm Mackintosh in kilt, principal of Scot descent (Hamilton), school district superintendent (a Darylimpale) all said no go. Letters from even direct descendant of Wm Makintosh, Dod Mackintosh, and the Mackintosh of Mackintosh even sent a letter, all fell on deaf ears.

Luckily when my one son went to prom, nobody said a thing about his kilt.

Be aware that when they say "black tie", they may really mean that everyone will wear a tux and that's it. Some may be more lenient, but many may be afraid of the slippery slope - if we allow highland attire this time, what will someone want the next time, and before you know it the event no longer resembles what they want.

Yeah, that may seem overly restrictive, but it's their party. They get to set the rules, whether you like them or not.

That being said, you're following the right course by asking the hosts about your desires.

Like I said above will probably go for it if we can get the funding together and the time off as it goes from Thursday to Saturday.

Quite a bit of funding needed for doing this. The Parde fee doesn't include the Ball, Luncheon, or extra throws.

On the medals, as above, I hadn't even considered wearing them. It was just the best photo I had in full black tie. I'm self conious about wearing medals. I don't like the distraction it causes, the questions or effect they have on people. I did a job and they gave me some chest candy. Most of these were for just breathing.

For those who haven't been in the military, the awards rarely have anything to do with how well you do your job. They make up for this by handing out bunches of "feel good" medals for just being in the military. Kind of takes the luster out of them.

I guess if the Krewe of Pontchartrain turn you away, there is always the Krewe of Armeinius - Armeinius Tableau Ball XLIV in Chalmette, LA. Its states "Strictly formal, tuxedo and long gowns. Cross-dressing allowed, but no costumes." It sounds like there might me a little more wiggle room for wearing a kilt.

One Krewe that doesn't allow kilts is one thing, their personal choice of attire. Fair's fair, it's thier party.

But a Krewe that allows kilts under the clause of cross-dressing, not so much.
