Re: Belts
All this talk of waist plate belts being a pain reminds me of how happy I am with this belt, which deals with the sittuation in fine fashion, I think:

And in action (you can also just barely see a bit of my Norse sax, by our very own Taygrd- everyone should have one of those, too!):

Re: Belts
Aye, I've always thought those belts of yours were very fine looking, as well.
Couldn't go wrong with one of those.

Re: Belts
Ryan,
I like that belt. Can you (a) tell us what size it is (1.5" / 2.25") and (b) from where you acquired it? From the picture it looks like a smaller belt.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Belts
I gave up wearing belts with kilts - but then I'm fat and the buckles dig in.
AmeriKilts has some great basic belts. RKilts has some great belts. Even Utilikilts just got a belt shipment in.

It's a full 2.5 inches wide, with the buckle being 3 inches... I have Popeye arms, which make it look small.
It was designed and made for me by Ferguson Britt, of sporran fame.

Re: Belts
I make my own belts and sporran straps. I hope to step up my leatherwork in the near future, I've made some for friends as well, here is a thread that Hamish started a few years ago when I made a belt and sporran strap for him. I think it looks just fine and it is thick enough for kilt wear. I personally would not want a kilt belt any thicker. Oh and both of these were from Tandy.

Look for the Hunter belt, here's the link http://www.mojoleather.com/sporran-kilt-belts
I've never worn a "waist plate buckle" belt, as I understand they're really for "dressy" occasions and I've never gone further up that scale than tweed jacket & waistcoat, sans belt.
That said, I also have two of the "Hunter" double-prong buckle belts from Mojo Leather, one black and one dark brown, and they're the only belts I wear these days. Great quality, including rounded & burnished edges to reduce wear on the fabric of your kilt.
