I could hear the man saying "it's a kilt" (at least he knew)
Anyway, I couldn't believe she just blurted out what she did in a store ... I guess she didn't think she was as loud as she actually was.
Reminds me of the time I wore my National Fallen Firefighters kilt in for the monthly business meeting at my station. By the way that some of the folks acted, you'd have thought that I'd strolled in starkers. The Chief's Mother asked what I wore under the kilt with a smile that told me that she was joking so I gave her the $1, $5, $10 answer. She smiled again and said that she didn't have the ten and had arthritus to boot. I smiled back and told her it was alright, I've always felt bad about asking for a tenner for only a dimes worth of product.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

Actually they were some better products. I actually bought some fire gel/tablets for a small camp stove there, for a Canadian dollar. That I paid $4. 99 for the exact same product a week before in the states. I bought a few more packages.

Re: Today's kilt comments when out and about
Mr. Calscot and I stopped for dinner with another couple after attending the Ventura games, and the gents of course were kilted. Here's conversation #1 I heard at the next table:
small child: Mom why are those men dressed like that?
Mom: They're wearing kilts. That's how men dress in Scotland.
small child: They look funny.
Mom: They don't look funny, they just look different because you're not used to seeing men dressed like that.
The kid seems satisfied with the answer, and I give Mom points for explaining it pretty well. Here's conversation #2 when an elderly gent walked by, same place, same time:
Elderly gent (after glaring at us): That's what we get for giving women the vote.
I know, I know-it made absolutely no sense to us, either. And yet the comment was definitely directed to my husband and our kilted friend. If you can figure it out please let me know...

I can only hazard a guess here, but I think he may have been referencing the fact that lovely ladies (such as yourselves) have voted not to spend any quality time with curmudgeons like him. The power of the kilt wins out yet once again!
