The next project: a throwing/pubbing kilt for GGGP!
GGGP has taken up Highland Athletics and is tearing it up. She's also a Babe with a capital "B" and has great legs. THERE, I said it. . She's also trim and smallish. I think she's about 5' 4". I had some Warrior tartan polyester-viscose in my fabric pile from another throwing kilt I made last year and so between this and that it looks like the next project will be a throwing and pubbing kilt for Good Girl Gone Plaid!
This will be fun! Here's the tartan.

I know that both fluter and Riverkilt have kilts in this tartan, maybe they'll drop some pics into this thread.
OK, so looks like it's going to be a five-yard (maybe five-and-a-half) pleated to the white stripe. This will work fine, I'll get something like 18 -19 pleats out of this, but they'll be smallish because GGGP's rumpus, like the rest of her, is smallish. I don't want to pleat it to sett, because the reason I have this tartan in the first place is because I built a kilt for Summer Pierson out of this stuff, and Summer will almost certainly will show up at a Southern California Highland Games, and you KNOW how women are about wearing the same dress to a function! Summers kilt is pleated to sett.
GGGP and I discussed which stripe to pleat to, and decided on the white stripe. She gets to decide if it's a velcro closure "quick on-quick off" or a more highfalutin' straps-and-buckles-closure. Heck, maybe she wants buttons and ribbons, we'll see. So here's the topic of discussion for the Board.
How short should it be?
Heh.
Heh.

Construction begins as soon as I finish Mike's kilt, which will probably be this coming weekend.

How long is a bandana? Yeah, that sounds about right
Have fun and throw far. In that order, too. - o1d_dude

You're asking a forum of predominantly men...
In all seriousness, for a ladies throwing kilt, I'd say 14" works out just about right. Enough fabric to cover up, and it still swishes with movement, even if the top few inches are sewn down for a better fit.
And it will work for pubbing too, without being sleazy.

What a nice tartan, and I'm sure GGGP will look lovely in it!
I think you should make it at least 15 inches, because no woman is going to complain about having an extra inch or two...

(I am 5'3" and I have a 14 inch kilt. It does feel a tad short to me.)

You know, we might need, nay...demand, a picture of said rumpus and legs to get an idea of short it should be..... For purely academic reasons only, of course...

*blushes*
Thank you Alan, I need this today! (Monday in all it's glories).
It's so nice to read you think I'm smallish after the week of Thanksgiving indulgences. *thinks* should the kilt be floor length after all those potatoes?
I really like that tartan and I already have hose to go with it!
If Summer and I do ever show up on the throwing field in matching tartans, we'll have to take a picture, to be posted like they do in the fashion magazines when celebs rock the same gown, under the caption, "Who wore it better?" On second thought...
She's an olympic hopeful, isn't she? And therefore, like 20...
*Straightens up to full height of 5'2".*

Marton Mills weaves another tartan in PV that I believe is identical to the Warrior tartan only with a lighter shade of purple called Baru. I have a length of Warrior tartan in my pile. My pile is growing faster than my finished kilt collection.

Kilty as charged.

Have you ever been to a 'Tilted Kilt' pub? I think that the length their servers wear would be just about right.
