All my Harris Tweed is woven to order, so just about any tartan (with the exception of certain modern copyrighted designs, of course).

I'm leaning toward regimental weight worsted wool, but curious about tweed and the design is also up in the air.
I've never experienced any problem. My "average" kilt is a four yard box pleated kilt made from 16 oz worsted wool tartan. I'll wear a kilt like that year round. However, my Harris Tweed kilts do tend to get a lot more wear in the fall and winter of the year. My favorite currently is made from 5 yards of tweed and knife pleated. It's this one, as a matter of fact.

It keeps me nice and warm and I have never experienced any problems with wind.
