Re: Scotland’s Pride; Gastronomic Delights!
It is often the case that Scotland's diet is characterised by the sweet and fatty foods that most of us enjoy on occasion. However, there are high quality Scottish foods and dishes which are really quite healthy, a short but by no means exhaustive list would include:
High quality Beef and Lamb from naturally fed livestock.
Many kinds of fish and shellfish including: Haddock, Herring, Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Languostines, Lobster, Prawns, Mussels, Oysters etc.
Venison (Red and Roe)
Grouse
Pheasant
Besides these ingredients cooked in various ways there are many good soups like Scotch Broth, Cock O' Leekie, and Cullin Skink
Not to mention desserts and cakes like Cranachan (made with fresh raspberries, fortified cream, and toasted oatmeal), Black Bun, Clootie dumplings. There are also quality artisanal cheeses available.
It bothers me when Scots food is portrayed as just deep fried fatty dishes and hideously sweet biscuits and cakes
