Kilted in wild wild weather

Last Saturday, I was kilted for a friend's birthday party, the weather was attrocious with gales up to 80mph and lashing, unceasing rain.
So obviously I got soaked and the kilt was blowing all over the place, keeping one's dignity was difficult.
I know the best way to dress for this weather is with the cape but I do not have one and also I do not like wearing them.
The kilt is probably the best dress for men as most of us will agree but not in weather like this, perhaps the traditional great kilt was more accommodating in stormy weather but its younger fledgling, the modern kilt ain't for this weather.
I think having to wear a cape outside takes away from the feeling of wearing the kilt, the freedom that the kilt gives to you.
I don't mind wearing the kilt in windy weather, its a challenge that most of us enjoy but not in torrential rain and windswept conditions that we are experiencing in Scotland at present

80mph winds?! Wow, that's hurricane-force winds. Definitely not kilt weather. But then again, I don't know that it would be smart to be outdoors in ANY clothing in those kinds of conditions, except maybe for 'foul weather' sailing gear (oil slickers, etc.).

Only foul weather gear is appropriate for that kind of weather -- better yet, stay inside!

Yup. I recall a thread aboiut a year ago that incuded an anecdote about a n00b from the states went pheasant hunting in his new tank while on a trip to Scotland. Apparently the tank was ruined on its first outing.

If a great kilt was the only stitch of clothing I owned I can see pursuing fall stag while wearing it. Many much better options available to the modern outdoorsman.

Forecast high temp for the next seven days here is -20F; I will probably cook dinner one night this week in a knockabout, but I have no immediate plans to go outdoors kilted.

Don't you know that's why kilted gentlemen carry a walking stick? When the sudden gust blows up your legs, you slap the stick around to hold the kilt where you couldn't reach without one. (Try not to bruise yourself.)

I also was at a birthday party on Saturday night and I think in all the years of kilt wearing I have never been out in such a night it was not cold but the wind and rain !it is a good job it was dark ! even though I was showing more than I should have been it was balanced by the views I was getting as the ladies party dresses were blowing more than my kilt!

Now we've got the snow, but its better kilt weather than last week, I just love wearig the kilt in the snow especially when people say that I must be freezing in the kilt. I don't know if the non kilt wearers are ever convinced that the kilt is warmer than trousers or pants.?
