This is probably a wise decision. Just because we here at X Marks are kilt-crazy doesn't mean that the rest of the world is. It's a kilt, yes....but it's JUST a kilt, too. Not your religion. So I applaud your maturity and common sense.

It's sometimes difficult being an "office guy" around a bunch of construction workers. I get enough teasing already for being a "college boy" and a desk jockey. Put me in a kilt around these same guys, and it would be intolerable! They already have a thinly-veiled dislike of men who don't have thick calluses on their hands (my only callus is from my mouse pad, lol), and they think I'm an odd duck for choosing to wear a tie to work. I've been told, and I quote, "you're the most dress-uppingest ****er for a concrete man!" But I am an engineer first and foremost.

Back to the subject, I may yet one of these days wear a kilt to a company party. But I'm sort of easing my way into it, gauging reactions from people who happen to see random pictures of me wearing it.

On the other hand, I work in an academic environment where we have graduate students and postdocs from all over the world. I have my red MacNicol, modern kilt on today for our group Christmas lunch. I teamed it up with nice green sox. Ha.... Nobody will bat an eye, they've seen me in this kilt 50x over the past four years.

Our company Christmas is on the 20th which is also payday. Coincidence? Anyways, if I don't actually have to work that day (I'm employed as a security guard), I'm thinking of wearing my kilt. Several of my co-workers know that I wear one and have seen pictures of me in it with mixed reactions ranging from laughs to compliments. I plan to stay just long enough to pick up my paycheck and leave. If asked what the hurry is in my leaving, I'll tell them I've been invited to a party by someone alot better looking than they are.

Do it! I did it a couple of years ago, and after the party, most of the women lined up to have their pictures taken with me. I'm doing it again tonight, but I have the excuse that there's a kilt night right afterwards.

Our Christmas party is scheduled for mid-January... bleh... and in another state... double bleh... our corporate office is in Maryland. I am flying up and will probably bring my kilt and argyle.

We had our holiday lunch last Wednesday. Here's a picture taken after we got back to the office.

I'm the one in RED. (I did not wear this to the restaurant - but I made a hit in the office later.) Since this is the first year we've been together as a team [new contract started last January] it was a surprise for the whole office.

 This.

To my office party I would go kilted. To my wife's office party I did not.
