As both a skydiver and former aircraft mechanic, I can assure you that there is NO SUCH THING as a "perfectly good airplane".
True story: Back when wrenching on F-14s, pilots would look for leaks on the tarmac before signing for an aircraft. No leaks meant empty fluid levels. "If it ain't leakin', I ain't flyin' it" was commonly heard.
