Casual Kilt Arrives!
My first "owned" kilt, a casual black watch, arrived yesterday. Looks very nice. I tried it on and am happy with it. I wore it around the house last night after work and it's great! My only wish is that it was a titch shorter (my faulty measurement!). My wife even said "isn't it a bit long?" It's maybe 1/2 or 3/4" longer than I would have liked when wore at traditional height. Again, my fault for measuring while on vacation. Waist and hips fit well.
Service was very fast. I ordered on New Year's day and it arrived yesterday, January 23rd, literally the kilt arrived the day before the "your order shipped" email arrived!

Re: Casual Kilt Arrives!
Pull it up 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch. That may do the trick. I think it should cross your navel. If it were a military kilt it would come to the base of your rib cage. Lets see the pics!

Wow that was fast shipping. Happy to hear you like it and it fits great. A shame it is a tad bit too long. Tulloch makes a great suggestion or if it bothers you a lot then we can alter it and add a hem or shorten it from the top.
Enjoy your kilt and look forward to pictures if you choose to post some.
Sorry for not emailing you the shipped email sooner.

Re: Casual Kilt Arrives!
Here it is in the box. Don't have a pic of me in it yet, but will shortly. I'm wearing it at navel, and it's not too terribly bad on length, but if it seems too long after another wear, I may send it for a little shortening at the top.
For now I'll just try to keep it high. As I mentioned, I should have gone 1" shorter probably. My mistake!

I previously had rented a kilt for a school fundraiser. But wearing one all the time was a different thing. My son was nonchalant about it. He walked in and said, "you're wearing your kilt". My girls were dreading the kilt arriving because they know I'll wear it, but after I put it on they seemed more appreciative or at least accepting. My youngest even suggested I should have gone for a more colorful tartan! So, the next one will be!

Re: Casual Kilt Arrives! Now with photos!
Sorry about the bad pix...my 14 year old son is a terrible photographer. These are the "best" of the lot!
Here it is on. I am wearing it so it's covering my naval, maybe even 1/2 above. Given my body type, I think that's about as high as it should go. I have on a medieval style belt since I don't have a kilt belt yet.

Length:

Too long? I could see it being 3/4 to maybe even an inch shorter but thought I should hear from the rabble, which always seems to have an opinion! Is it so long that it would be worth an adjustment?
In watching some of those videos of the highland games, seems like they were worn a bit longer than top of the knees, esp by the athletes. Given these photos, you'll know I'm no caber tosser!
And with a navy blue wool sweater:

Show us the pleats!
And, for what its worth, you don't "need" a belt with a kilt - the kilt straps will hold it up well by themselves.

It doesn't look too long to me. Just hike it up a little and enjoy breaking it in.

Re: Casual Kilt Arrives!
Looks good, you will enjoy the versatility of the Black Watch. I just got mine from Heritage of Scotland three days ago and already had it on with lovat blue hose and a ragg wool sweater. Lots of smiles and a couple compliments at the pub last night while having a couple brews. Enjoy your kilt and wear it well.

Re: Casual Kilt Arrives!
I think the length is well within the acceptable range, so don't sweat it. Some people are very precise about it, but my Scottish aunt says "just make sure to show some knee."
Have you taken out the basting stitches yet?
