    SF kilt night

Would there be any interest in holding a kilt night here in San Francisco a little later this Spring? Was thinking of maybe The Chieftain Pub on 5th and Howard. It is only 2 blocks from the Powell St. Bart station.

I live in Fresno, and work schedule permitting would love to head to San Fran for a kilt night!

If it's a Friday it would certainly work for me, and The Chieftain is a delightful place. Best bangers & mash I've ever had.

    Re: SF kilt night

My wife, son and I will be visiting San Francisco for my business meetings the week of April 14-21, and I had mentioned to Alan something about trying to get the Norcal rabble together for a kilt night one night that week, and he sounded positive. I would love to meet and get to know some of the more famous members of this esteemed forum during that event if at all possible. I have a dinner function to attend on Thursday 4/19 evening, but otherwise the evenings are free, including Sat 4/14 and Friday 4/20 in particular. If necessary we could stick around an extra day to make Saturday 4/21 evening available as well, but when travelling west to east we usually like to have an extra day at home to accomodate the jetlag, so for right now anticipating flying out of SF on Saturday 4/21 most likely. We will be staying at the Fairmount near downtown but should be able to get just about anywhere else by cab.

Would love to get a chance to spend a fun kilted evening with the Norcal Rabble, if it works out for others involved.

Saturday April 14th....Ardenwood Tartan Day...not "quite" a Highland Games, but more like a Celebration of Scottish Culture. It's like a Games only a bit smaller...ONE pipe band, a small piping competition, a dozen clans, a dozen vendors, the Childrens Glen for the little folks, the Red Thistle SCD group, probably one local school of Highland Dancers, the local birds of prey club, a Living History Glen, Scottish food vendors, and about 18 local athletes (no Pro's or Super-A's).

    Oh, and a beer garden!

Attendance is usually about 2500 people. Admittance is cheap...$8 for adults gets you into the East Bay Regional Park, which is where we hold the event. If you get bored with Scottish stuff, you can walk around the grounds and visit a real working blacksmiths shop, see the weaving and spinning demonstrations, look at the baby lambs and so on. This is a GREAT events for kids, esp. little ones because it's not so big that it's overwhelming.

A bunch of Nor Cal X-Markers will be there, so let's meet up. I'll be the guy in the gray EBSA Athletic Director polo shirt.

EXCELLENT idea re: Ardenwood Tartan Day! I usually go, and this should be just before my annual "spring training" trip to Japan. Woo-hoo!!

I'm down for a "pre-Ardenwood" pub night in late Feb or March at the Chieftain! Most evenings are good except Thursdays. I'll BART over from Oakland. I've got Tartan day on the calendar, too!

Yeah, this doesn't mean that we can't get together BEFORE Tartan Day! .. Just that Forester Modern was gonna be in town, and....seemed like a natural.

Looked up the event and location, discovering that it is at least 35 miles/45 minutes minimum from our downtown hotel, and goodness only knows what cab fare for that would entail. Also not sure if we would be able to make it into SFO airport before noon your time, taxi and check in at hotel, which means leaving the hotel probably at earliest 2pm and earliest arrival at Ardenwood maybe 3 pm. Probably will have missed most if not all of the event activities by then, expecting most to be winding down and packing up in late afternoon. Possible but not looking exactly great, especially after an early rise to make a nearly cross-country flight, etc.., with Wife and The Boy (kilted I hope) in tow. Will keep it in mind as planning for the trip goes forward. Thanks for your efforts and consideration.
