That's one of my mother's recipes - she even boiled the Christmas turkey. Her other recipe is batter and fry until crispy.

    Re: Irish party menu?

Many years ago my wife bought an "authentic" Irish cookbook. It was all Lamb and seaweed. Except the one recipe that makes me laugh to this day. Bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich! Yes, those were the only ingredients, plus toast, listed in the cookbook!

My mother was a creative cook, but my father insisted on the "boil till soft" type food. I hated it! After I got married and learned you could steam vegetables, food became much more attractive.

Well....about this time of year, Chicago dyes the Chicago River green and McDonald's does the same to their "shakes". "Shakes" as distinct from "milk shakes" because they've had issues with the Food And Drug Administration which has questioned whether or not any actual milk is involved here.

Festive springtime tribute to St. Patrick's Day!

And the reference to "that Scottish restaurant" goes back to the movie Time After Time wherein Malcolm McDowell, portraying HG Wells transplanted to the present day, asks to once agin eat at "that Scottish restaurant" that he so enjoyed the first time. Mary Steenburgen (still hot!) as the love interest and the wicked David Warner as a transplanted Jack The Ripper.

So...the perfect Lenten meal is a Fillet-O-Fish and a Shamrock Shake.

I understand that, if you ask, McDonald's will make you a "Land, Sea and Air" sandwich where they give you a burger, a fish fillet AND a chicken fillet all on one glorious sandwich!

    Only in America!

I was wondering if Chicago still dyed the river green. Now I don't have to wonder any more.

A BLT? I've missed the joke I'm afraid - this is what I have for lunch probably every day!

edit: Ah... it is the "authentic Irish" cookbook that is the joke - duh

The funny part is that there would ever need to be a written "recipe" when the ingredients are in the name.

Hey...don't laugh...I recently found out that it was the Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich that was primarily responsible for the business of trading in pork belly futures....lot a' people made a boodle because of the BLT!
