    Re: tartan flat cap help

    FB.

Any tailors, gun/fishing shop in Scotland is worth a try ----plenty of tweed caps are usually about too. Oddly enough, they are not usually found at kiltmakers. Haggarts of Aberfeldy, House of Bruar, Campbells of Beauly would be three, to start with, but tweed hats of various sorts are to be easily found in Scotland.

I am reliably informed that the "Sutherland Sporting Co." of Lairg has a first class selection of tweed caps, hats etc and a good website. For those that like tweed caps have a look at the "Bugatti" style cap, it is a wonderful design for severe weather and many an outdoors-man uses them up here in the winter.

Note, "their" deerstalker is my fore 'n aft! It happens over here, tailors do not have a consistent naming policy ------rather like they have---or don't have---- with kilt jackets!

Sutherland's price looks quite reasonable. I'll have a look around the local Scottish suppliers, but with that option strongly in mind. Sometimes one does better regarding the price when a retailer brings them into the country paying the duties on only the wholesale cost, but it's important to have a fallback position before laying down the cash.

    Thanks Jock.

I have a genuine Tennesseean Coon skin (is that pc) Davy Crocket hat, but it hasn't been cold enough to wear it this winter with the kilt
