Why the cooling off corner?
I am really curious as to why the - A story of Kilted Attention or: Why I can't go commando! - string specifically got there.
Like most normal exchanges it evolved in a new direction but that is not reason enough for censorship to kick in - at least on my side of the pond.
Without free exchanges of ideas and opinions here this site would be a waste of time.
If the moderators opinions become the only ones that count then we are in trouble.
Skimming the whole string, I found no problems according to post guidelines.

It's not "moderator opinion," as stated there had been several reports. It is typically member reporting that gets a thread brought to mods' attention, so you are seeing peer review in action. I'll refrain from adding my own opinion on the thread itself, just trying to clarify (from a member's, not a mod's point of view) how a thread can get put in COC to give mods time to review it.

Yeah, I was in the proccess of posting a thoughtful (for me) reply with photos and everything, but the thing got moved right before I hit enter. I guess some of the more sensitive posters got their feelings hurt and reported the thread. Too bad, because after that I'm unlikely to retype any of it.

Re: Why the cooling off corner?
A lot of blood was spilled to get our First amendment rights, and I for one am protective of Our constitution. Any free and open discussion is going to offend some, but without it there is no chance of learning or expanding understanding of a subject at hand. There are those of closed mind who can't tolerate an opinion other than their own, they can not be allowed to dominate an "open" forum. The best way for them to act, is to join in with their angle or perspective. I read and respect all sides of an issue. It helps me to understand the human side of a thing.

Funny - One of the most Scottish things to me is a good spirited debate - preferably at a pub.

Re: Why the cooling off corner?
Couple of things...
This isn't the United States. It's the internet. This is a privately owned site, for which the owner pays both maintenance fees on a web server and DNS lookup fees, so we can find it. As such, the owner can set rules about what's acceptable and what isn't. "Free Speech" doesn't really apply here.
... much as I wish it did, sometimes.... however, that's the reality of it, and well. There you go.
Besides, the owner is Canadian. AND...while I don't know but I suspect the internet host is probably Canadian, as well.
That said...
I'm disgusted that some people are SO SO SO sensitive that they simply cannot STAND seeing a viewpoint different from theirs, so that they take offence and have to squeal to the moderators about how "offensive" something is. Like a thread about kilt checks.
It's a thread about kilt checks. Not politics. Not Guns. Not anything that family people can't see. Some folks, notably Thorina, have spoken the flat-out truth about stuff that HAPPENS, though some people just don't want to hear about it. She never did so disrespectfully, nor did she use foul language. Flat out truth, if you wear a kilt in the USA, you may have to deal with it. We can laugh about Grant never getting any kilt checks, but it's verboten to discuss kilt checks in a manner that suggests that SOME people might actually consider them to be a good thing??? ... depending on the situation?
Some people don't mind kilt checks as much as some others. Get a grip, people. I've been here six years here on X Marks and I have yet to whine to the mods about a single thread in this joint. If someone offends your delicate sensibilities so much, then put them on "ignore". The feature is right there in your control area. I use it, and I'm glad for it. I encourage you, if you find me to be obnoxious, then put me on ignore, and be happy.

Point taken Alan, the Canadians are a lot more circumspect or reserved in their speech, than us mouthy Americans. But I will wager that the lions share of the members here are us mouthy US citizens. As are half the paying sponsors.

Re: Why the cooling off corner?
I must have missed something. It seemed like the original point of the thread in question was why the gent was so unlikely to go commando because of the uncouth behaviour of an unencouraged admirer. How did that offend anyone? I am honestly confused and not trying to prick anyone's sensibilities.
If this site is about the kilt and what's worn with it then why get upset about discussing what's under it? For goodness' sake, we've had talks about "body glide". That's a disturbing image if ever there was one and that passed through ok.
