Kilt Jacket Sizing On The Sales Forum.

No more guessing Kilt jacket size.

If you are selling a kilt jacket, or any sport/blazer, always include the waist measurements. Simply button it up, lay it flat, and measure the jacket's waist. If its 20" then the jacket is a 40. Just double the measurement and you'll have a bit more accurate size, though its not foolproof.

I noticed very few members do this on the sales forum. For a bit more accuracy always include the waist in your measurements. You might find your tagged 40 is actually a 38, etc...

    My to cents,
    Nylo,

    Nylo,
Ah, I believe this is incorrect. Jacket size is usually the chest measurement, taken just below the armpits. Standard miltary fit is the waist is 6" less than the chest, e.g. a size 40 jacket is 40" at the chest and 34" at the waist. civilian sizing is less tapered, and "executive" or "portly" sizes even less so. But jacket size goes by the chest.

Famous last words, but most jackets also have a size tag in the inside pocket...

    It's really not that easy.

Here is the clearest set of measuring instructions I've ever seen. Follow these carefully and you'll get good measurements.

Like I said, "Its not foolproof." But, its has worked for me for years in a pinch. When buying a used jacket I never trust the tag... Even the ones in the pocket. ;) You just never know how many times that jacket has been altered.

This is what I have always referred to. Any time I want to buy a jacket online I email this guide to the seller and ask them to provide measurements in accordance with the guide so I can then make an educated assessment on whether it will fit or not.

Re: Kilt Jacket Sizing On The Sales Forum.

The waist of a jacket isn't really a very good guide to what size the chest is, so I'm afraid I can't really see that this would work or frankly even worth the effort, so I'd suggest as the others have, get some proper measurements.

Although it would be good for sellers to mention both the chest and the waist measurement of the jacket...

I used a similar guide for my jackets in the for sale, so hopefully the buyers will get the correct size jacket that they have paid for
