As a longstanding member of the "Thoreau Sauntering Society" my routine civilian mode of ambulation is the " saunter", a more relaxed and less goal directed mode of getting about, which still gives one enough albeit slower and less exaggerated hip motion to activate the pleat swish in a pleasingly casual way. This is my usual mode at say a highland games where there is lots of time to see the sites and I am also doing a lot of people watching simultaneously and inconspicuously. However, often when kilted I am a bit more dressed up at semi-dress or dress level of attire, at which times I have been told I am indeed more confident, directed and purposeful in my activity and my baseline saunter does indeed transition up into a true swagger, with the resultant increase in waggle, pleat swing, and swish (aka the activated "peacock effect"). Mind you, I too do not follow myself around or look in mirrors or video to verify this myself (that might be considered vain by many) but now with the advent of cheap small video cameras I may need to revisit this as I am planning on doing with my golf swing this spring and summer. Luckily since I frequently play golf kilted I should be able to kill two birds with one stone. Will keep you posted, although I do not intend on posting video of my own **** on you-tube or anything like that.
