Re: An ugly kilted fashion show

    Each to their own!

I absolutely LOVED those pix! They are representative of an incredibly creative and artistic person -- someone who'd I have a wonderful time with talking over lunch or coffee! Can't imagine a cooler way to spend the day than to attend that fashion show...

Unless fashion pushes the boundaries of aesthetics, we can never evolve past where we are now.

Can't wait to show these to the wife -- she loves this kind of stuff as much as I do!
    The styles are incredible!

I don't think that is a kilt. It is a gingham skirt worn by a man. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Each to his own.

    Yes! They do lack credibility!

The name of this particular collection by Anna Langdon is Kitchfolk und Kindheit. Really, it is!

Kitsch: a form of art that is considered an inferior, tasteless copy of an extant style of art or a worthless imitation of art of recognized value.

    Kindheit: childhood

I should love this, being tasteless and childish myself, but the affected ennui just puts me, ummm, on edge. I love being an uncultured rube.

Well thanks to hipsterism, kitsch is "in." And the "kindheit" label is very apt, because I thought all the styles were very playful and fun!

I love fashion that doesn't take itself too seriously, and this to me certainly qualified.

Oh, I know. I "get" it.

I'm thinking of buying an army of garden gnomes and have them doing the ribbon dance around around me (a living, naked maypole). Set it in an old abattoir, and the ironical, kitschy tableau will have the elite glitterati so far up my fanny I could quit my regular job. As long as I pretended complete indifference.

    How delicious!

    Isn't that the EMT tartan?

Thanks for your sense of humor, BTW.

I wonder if the heavyset woman I saw at the bus stop this morning knows she's a hipster...a 'Hello Kitty' t-shirt and garish Hammer pants--my guess is no.

Re: An ugly kilted fashion show

I used to collect kitch, but if kitch is in, it's no longer kitchy. When it goes out, then people who don't normally like kitch will be stuck with what to do with it. Then, there will be a glut of kitch on the market that will devalue the normal kitch collector's kitch collections. Then, my progeny will be poorer for it. IOW, we ultmately all lose.
